SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., September 19, 2009 -- Robert Davis Racing (RDR) returned to the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) National Championships at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah this past week with high expectations of defending two class championships. Thanks to driver Scott Shelton, the team did indeed win a championship, but it was two less than targeted.
Scott Shelton drew from the karma bank to win the PTC race, taking the lead late in the race when teammate Dennis Holloway slowed. Scott had fallen out of the 2009 race with a mechanical problem while leading.
Robert Davis suffered a rare DNF - his first mechanical failure in five seasons with the same engine.
Dennis Holloway led the PTC field until struck by another car. An electrical problem, possibly caused by the contact, slowed the car to a second place finish.
Lee Papageorge impressed all with a solid fourth place finish in his rookie run in the national championship.
Jim Holloway ran in two classes: PTB where he finished fifth, and ST2 in a new turbocharged Mazda RX-8. The ST2 car is still in the early stages of development and Jim finished just outside the top ten.
Driver Class Car Finish

About RDR: RDR has been a dominant force on the west coast in SCCA Club Racing, winning 11 divisional and 4 national titles for the last seven years. While the team still supports the SCCA, NASA has given it the opportunity to race in different classes, eliminating much of the inter- team competition. The team's 2010 goal is to capture three NASA National titles at Miller Motorsports Park in 2010, up from two in 2009.
RDR appreciates the support of Mother's Polishes and Waxes, SAFERACER, Hoosier Racing Tires, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development, Motul, AIM Sports, Racing Hart, Nippon Paint, Racing Beat, Speed Source, Hawk Brakes, AWR, Classy Car Auto Detailing, Sparco, Pure Power, Star Shield Armor, Petrol Eyewear, and EMI.
