Robert Davis Racing Celebrates Early-Season Racing Success

ROBERT DAVIS RACING CELEBRATES EARLY-SEASON RACING SUCCESS

- 2012 NASA club-racing season kicks off at Auto Club Speedway -

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., March 8, 2012 Ð Robert Davis Racing (RDR) kicked off the 2012 National Auto Sport Association (NASA) racing season where it left off in 2011. Under perfectly sunny but windy skies, RDR’s drivers brought nine race cars to run in five different classes, scoring five wins out of ten possible. In motor racing, where out-of-bounds carries more of a penalty than almost any other sport,

batting .500 is a solid show of strength.

RDR has a history of bringing young drivers into the team, showing them the racing ropes and helping

them get on track. In addition to wheel-to-wheel racing , one of the highlights in a NASA weekend is the

high-performance driving education (HPDE) group, which enables new drivers to get on track in their

stock street vehicle. Joining the racers, RDR had three more students in the HPDE group, all of whom

hold high hopes of joining the road-racing ranks very soon.

In race action, Jim Holloway’s new turbo-charged Mazda RX-8 took two uncontested wins in the ST2

class, running well all weekend. Dennis Holloway (RX-8) and team newcomer Josh Allan (Mazda MX-5)

battled in PTC, with Holloway fighting back from an off-form Saturday finish in third place to take the

win on Sunday, and Allan finishing in second on both days. Lee Papageorge (RX-8) ran uncontested in

PTD to wins on both days, and Randy Miller drove his just-completed (to replace a car destroyed at this

race one year ago) Mazda MX-5 Miata to two competitive PTE results.

As usual on a NASA race weekend, Spec Miata saw aggressive wheel-to-wheel (and sometimes fender-to-fender) action, with Ken Saward taking a well-deserved pole position on both days, but finishing

fourth both days. Jeremy Barnes recovered from a rare DNF (Did Not Finish) on Saturday to cross the

line in second on Sunday. Jeff Jeppeson and Mark Stenzel fought each other to finish sixth and fifth and

fourth and eighth respectively over the two days.
