ROBERT DAVIS RACING DEBUTS NEW SECOND-GENERATION DRIVERS WITH START OF THE 2019 SEASON

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., February 19, 2019 –The NASA Southern California Region season started last weekend with a joint event with the Arizona Region at Chuckwalla Raceway in Desert Center, CA.  The tricky high-desert track was a new venue for most of the Robert Davis Racing (RDR) drivers, but was a fun way to start the season with full fields and amazing weather.

Two second-generation drivers made their RDR debut, with Christopher Allen competing in HPDE4 and Chase Gilhart making his race debut in Spec Miata.  Christopher is a high school senior, and the son of Mike and Michelle Allen. Mike has been with the team for many years driving Miatas, RX-8s and MX-5 Cup cars.  Christopher will complete his preparation for licensing next month at Buttonwillow.  Chase Gilhart is a college freshman, the son of Rick and Denise Gilhart.  Rick competed with RDR back in the early 2000s and gained two SCCA National Championships in the SCCA T4 class.  RDR now has four 18-20-year olds driving, including Charlie Jimenez and Hannah Grisham.

The fountain of youth didn’t flow as well as wisdom with old age, as team manager Robert “RD” Davis drove the team’s Mazda RX-8 nicknamed “Snowflake” to a second-place finish in Saturday’s ST5 race.  The Spec Miata field was quite a bit bigger – 29 cars took to the grid – and Hannah Grisham secured a third-place podium Sunday.  Jeremy Barnes was able to mark one up for the “old guys” with a fourth place on Saturday in Spec Miata. Chase Gilhart was able to show his raw speed making up 6 positions in Sunday’s race to finish 16th –  again this was his first race weekend.  Nathan Edmonds brought his new Mazda RX-8 TT5 car to the track for the first time, after totaling his previous RX-8 at Buttonwillow.  The car showed good speed and performed well, and most of all looked fantastic after a detail from Classy Car Auto Detailing with Mothers Products.
