ROBERT DAVIS RACING EARNS FIRST WIN OF 2019 SEASON WITH HANNAH GRISHAM

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., March 19, 2019 –Spec Miata driver and Mazda Teen Challenge member Hannah Grisham earned two wins to start the local season at the famed Willow Springs International Raceway. Hannah started from the pole each day, and showed the ever-competitive Spec Miata field the way to the finish all weekend long. Her Sunday victory was by only .130 seconds over second place, and she also set the fastest lap of the race.

The NASA Southern California Region event also included a three-hour enduro that the team entered “Snowflake”, its 2004 Mazda RX-8. The car was equipped with a new brake set-up from Wilwood Disc Brakes that performed perfectly, with nearly no wear showing after three hours. Labeled RDR- Old, Fat, and Slow, Jeremy Barnes (none of those) qualified Snowflake in second position for the race. Robert Davis (all of those) started the race and drove a solid stint without putting a wheel wrong. He turned over the car to Barnes after a 2 hour and 15-minute stint, running in fourth place. After only 20 minutes in the car, Barnes experienced an oil line failure as he entered turn eight, flat-out in fifth gear at about 110 mph. He described it as a “proper eye-opener”, but brought the car back to the pits where it retired. The team expected more, given the car’s pace, but they were still rewarded with a fourth place finish in class.

The youth trend at RDR continues as Austin Edwards and his family joins the team from the Junior Late Model ranks. At the ripe old age of 14, Austin joins RDR to compete in Spec Miata, finishing up HPDE4 at Willow Springs. He will join Christopher Allen at the NASA Competition License drivers’ school next weekend at Buttonwillow.
