ROCK STAR, YOUNG STARS, FLYING ROCKS CAP THE WEEKEND OF RACING IN BUTTONWILLOW

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., April 9, 2019 –Spec Miata driver and Mazda Teen Challenge member Hannah Grisham earned another team win Sunday at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in true rock star fashion, with a 15-second gap over second place. Grisham started from the pole each day. Even though the result wasn’t what was hoped for, Saturday’s race was even more exciting, with the ever-competitive Spec Miata field seeing the top three finishing within .231 seconds of the leader; Grisham finished third.

Three of the young stars of Robert Davis Racing (RDR) two showed up for their first races, with Christopher Allen (aged 18) finishing strong on both Saturday and Sunday. Chase Gilhart had a DNF on Saturday and finished 12th Sunday. Austin Edwards (aged 14) finished his race Sunday. GIlhart got quite a surprise Saturday when another competitor went off track and threw a large rock through his Mazda Miata’s windshield; luckily, he was not hurt. Edwards had a brake issue Sunday but was able to finish the race on the lead lap after starting an impressive 10th.

The NASA Southern California Region event again included a three-hour enduro that saw the team enter “Snowflake”, its white 2004 Mazda RX-8. With the team running under the name, “RDR- Old, Fat, and Slow”, team-leader Robert Davis started the race and drove a solid stint without putting a wheel wrong. He planned to iron-man the entire race, but his race was cut short when a water seal failed in the engine on the RX-8.
